Instagram account type
This article explains which Instagram account types are supported and how to switch between them.
Instagram account types
There are three Instagram account types:
Personal
Creator
Business
The platform supports professional accounts: Business and Creator. Personal accounts are not supported.
Switch account type
If you switch a professional Instagram account back to Personal, in-app insights are turned off and insights for your content, including ads, are permanently removed. You also lose access to Meta business tools such as Meta Business Suite and Ads Manager.
You can check your current account type and change it from the Instagram mobile app:
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to open your profile.
Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right.
Tap Business tools and controls or Creator tools and controls, depending on your current profile type. If you do not see that option, tap Account or Preferences.
Tap Switch Account Type.
You will see the available options based on your current account type.
If you have a personal account, follow these steps instead:
Tap your profile picture in the bottom right to open your profile.
Tap the three horizontal lines in the top right.
Tap Account type and tools.
Tap Switch to professional account and complete the process.
For more details, see the Instagram Help Center here.
You can auto-publish posts, Reels, and carousels with Business or Creator accounts. To auto-publish Stories, the account must be Business.
