YouTube Metrics

This article explains the main YouTube metrics available in the platform, including channel growth, published video performance, viewed video performance, and competitor data.

YouTube channel data is organic. Some metrics may be delayed by 2 to 3 days. Subscriber counts are only available from the day the channel is connected, and the first full sync can take about 7 days.

Community

Growth

  • Subscribers: total subscribers in the selected period. This value is rounded to three significant figures by YouTube. More details are available in the revision history and the YouTube Help Center.

  • Video views: total video views in the selected period, including private, unlisted, and deleted videos.

  • Revenue: total income in the selected period.

  • Videos: total number of posted videos, including hidden videos.

Subscriber balance

  • Gained: subscriber gains during the selected period. If a person unsubscribes and subscribes again, both actions are counted.

  • Lost: subscribers lost during the selected period.

  • Videos: total posted videos, including hidden videos.

Demographics

Gender, age, viewers by country, and traffic source. Country data is based on viewer IP addresses. Age and gender data is based on logged-in viewers. YouTube may only show demographics for a limited sample, so the data may not represent your full audience.

Videos with revenue

  • Date: video publication date.

  • Total revenue: total revenue generated by the video.

  • Partner revenue: income earned through the YouTube Partner Program.

  • Ad revenue: revenue earned from advertising on the video.

  • Impressions: number of times ads on the video were shown.

  • Monetized playbacks: number of views that included ads. More details are available here.

Published videos

This section shows videos published within the selected period. Metrics reflect each video’s accumulated performance from publication date through yesterday. The date filter only decides which videos appear in the list.

  • Video views: total video views, including hidden videos.

  • Likes: total likes in the selected period.

  • Dislikes: total dislikes in the selected period.

  • Comments: total comments in the selected period.

  • Shares: total shares for videos published in the selected period.

  • Videos: total number of videos published in the selected period.

List of videos

  • Date: publication date and time.

  • Video views: total views. Negative values can appear when YouTube removes views it considers fraudulent.

  • Watch time: total viewing time in minutes.

  • Avg. views duration: average watch time divided by the total number of plays.

  • Likes: total likes.

  • Dislikes: total dislikes.

  • Comments: total comments.

  • Shares: total shares.

Viewed videos

This section includes videos that generated views during the selected period, regardless of when they were published.

  • Video views: total video views in the selected period.

  • Likes: total likes in the selected period.

  • Dislikes: total dislikes in the selected period.

  • Comments: total comments in the selected period.

List of videos

  • Date: publication date and time.

  • Video views: total views. Negative values can appear when YouTube removes fraudulent views.

  • Watch time: total viewing time.

  • Avg. views duration: total watch time divided by total views.

  • Likes: total likes.

  • Dislikes: total dislikes.

  • Comments: total comments.

  • Shares: total shares.

Competitors

List of competitors

  • Subscriptions: total subscribers for each competitor.

  • Total views: total views of competitor videos.

  • Videos: total videos posted by the competitor.

  • Likes: average likes per competitor video in the analyzed period.

  • Dislikes: average dislikes per competitor video in the analyzed period.

  • Comments: average comments per competitor video in the analyzed period.
